REQUIRED SKILLS
Please note: we are not looking for a pure data modeler or a data warehouse focused profile. This role requires application-level transactional data modeling, OLTP, 3NF not reporting-centric modeling.
(This is not Datawarehouse/BI/Big data role but application data modeler)
Must haves :
What the Role Will Do (Day to Day)
The data modeler will initially align with one software team (out of 10+).
Core responsibility:
o Take raw payloads from third party data vendors (example mentioned: replacement cost data vendors)
Key activities include:
o Analyzing incoming vendor data payloads
o Collaborating with:
Software engineers
Product managers
Architects
Engineering managers
o Designing relational schemas using a data modeling tool
o Ensuring databases follow relational normalization principles (e.g., 3rd normal form)
o Supporting database release into environments
o Heavy documentation of tables and columns so data is clearly understood across the organization
Time split estimate:
o ~50% hands on modeling
o ~50% analysis, coordination, and cross functional collaboration
Tools, Technologies, and Environment
Primary data modeling tool: DB Schema
o Experience with other tools (ERwin, etc.) is acceptable
Database: PostgreSQL
o Experience with MySQL or Oracle is acceptable
SQL: Required
o Tool generates most SQL, but the candidate must:
Review generated SQL
Write custom SQL when needed
Spot issues and inaccuracies
Metadata / Data catalog platform: Alation
o Comparable tools (e.g., Collibra) are acceptable
Architecture context:
o Microservices based applications
o Engineers primarily write Java
o The data modeler does not code microservices, but must:
Understand how microservices interact with databases
Act as a counterbalance when data design needs to be re thought
AI tools: The organization has licensed AI tools internally (e.g., corporate chat tools), but no specific AI development responsibility was assigned to this role.

Top Requirements (Must haves)
Scripting:
o SQL
o Modeling tool once you have done the design on your tables, the modeling tool can generate the SQL. It is important that the resource understands SQL and the different dialicts of SQL. But they don't have to be an expesrt in PostGres.
PostGres is the main database. They need to have MySql and Oracle experience to understand PostGres
o DB Schema main modeling tool
But would accept Irwin or ER studio or online cloud datamodeling solution any of those would be acceptable.
