- Complete Control & Design ▶-- Instead of using ICs (integrated circuits), we have a all discrete topology, single pass, series regulator design. This allows complete design control over all operating points and parameters for superior performance.
- Low Noise▶-- A constant-current source feeds a zener diode for stable voltage reference. It's a cost-effective alternative to pricey voltage reference ICs, enabling gentle start-up. Output ripple (unloaded) below 13µV at 24 VDC (measured with Tangent LNMP and 187 DMM in ACmV mode). Ripple decreases at lower output voltages, outperforming an IC regulator-based PSU under identical conditions.
- High PSRR ▶-- The error amplifier uses a discrete opamp implementation with a high open-loop gain of 102.5dB. To enhance its power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). The error amplifier consists of a first stage with a long-tailed pair differential amplifier, current mirror, and constant current source. The second stage is the voltage amplification stage (VAS) with a constant current source load. The third stage utilizes power MOSFET output devices configured as a source follower.
- Two parallel high-current, reliable MOSFETs (18A each) serve as the ‘pass’ transistor, which simplifies heat dissipation and facilitates thermal management. The high current rating ensures ample safety margin against over-current damage. Onboard heatsinks can support up to 1A continuous output (with higher peak-value currents). Offboard heatsinks enable sustained higher currents. MOSFETs' negative temperature coefficient prevents thermal runaway issues often seen in conventional BJT devices.
